Ants are a type of insects which can be seen everywhere around the globe. It lives in all the continents except Antarctica and Arctic region. Ants are generally red or black in color with body length about one third to one-half inches. However, the size of ant depends upon the species and type of the ant of a colony. It can be 1 to 1.3 inch in size. Thin body of an Ant have six legs, elbowed antennae powerful Jaws. Ants are social insects they generally live in communities altogether.
There are more than 10,000 species of ants known. Each species have three types of adult ants living in the colony namely the queen, female ants, and male ants. Queen ants are generally largest ants in its colony. There may be more than one queen in the colony. It has wings and they lay eggs. Queen ants have the longest span of life up to 30 years.
There are so many different habitats of ant depending upon the type of species of ant. They live in underground soil or in wooden trees by constructing nest with soil and plant materials. Ants are most active in the warmer season while in colder season, it becomes inactive.
Ants are very tiny species but they are not weak. Ants are weightlifting champions. It can lift weight about 20 times their body weight. Ants are omnivorous, it has very powerful sensory organs which can easily detect the presence of food.
